more distribution!!!

December 16Community Christmas Party in Frisco will be handing out coats to under-resourced children.  Estimated amount is about 300.

December 17Operation Cares Christmas Gift is giving out new blankets and coats to the homeless community.  Many of these came from you!

December 17 – The colonias in Mexico will be receiving 15-20 bags of kids and adult coats.  These people don’t even have electricity or running water in their community.

December 19-21Mission Arlington will get over 1,000 kids coats to distribute to under-resourced families that really need these.

Month of December – The Dallas Life homeless shelter and Our Calling will be receiving the last loads of coats and blankets.

Even though Project Warm Us isn’t actively collecting coats and blankets right now, we will always be part of helping these organizations get these types of items to people in need.  The need is very real.  It’s one thing to see the numbers and act to help, but to get a request for more coats and blankets one week after delivering 1,000 really hit home for me.  5,723 people.  That’s a lot of people, and that doesn’t even scratch the surface.  Thanks again for your participation!!!  Over 6,000 people are warmer this winter because of you!

Come help distribute coats and blankets this Saturday!

There are plenty of spots left to help distribute coats and blankets to the homeless at this Saturday’s Operation Care Christmas Gift 2011 event. Shifts are 7AM-noon and 11AM-5PM. Aside from helping hand out gifts, there are lots of other ways to serve (kids activities, footwashing, prayer, and more).  Check out the Operation Care website for a list of options and sign up.

Thanksgiving day in Dallas…

Many of the coats and blankets you donated were handed out to the people in need on Thanksgiving Day.  As I was helping, I couldn’t help laughing at the fact that I recognized a good portion of the coats.

One of the men’s coats had the name “Kevin” embroidered on one side and a flight emblem missing from the other side.  After making a few jokes about Kevin loosing his wings (I’m not mean, it was a warm work coat, not an aviator jacket), I bagged up the coat along with many others.  The man that got the coat came through the line 3 times.  I knew because of the coat!  LOL!  Sadly, I have no photo of that.  Continue reading

4,555!! 80% there!!

Thanks to everyone that has helped Project Warm Us!  So many homeless people will be warm because of YOU.

We will be doing another distribution tomorrow of about 1,700 coats and blankets?  That’s in my best estimation of not being able to walk through my garage.  These are going to Our Calling in Dallas to be distributed to mostly the shelterless homeless in the Dallas area on Thanksgiving Day.  By the weekend, the high temperature will be in the 50′s.  This is a true need.  The first delivery down to Dallas has almost been completely distributed.  That’s a one week time frame and they need more.  Keep them coming!  Only 1,168 more needed.

Distribution in the Colonias in Mexico

The Colonias is an area of Mexico with extreme poverty.  These people needed coats and blankets in a big way!  It’s in the south, but they still get some really cold temperatures down there, as well as cool evenings.  Although most of our donations are going to Dallas, we had a surplus of kids coats, baby blankets and some miscellaneous clothing items we picked up along the way.  Here’s a few photos.

Here’s a family we were able to give some coats to for their children.

A few more distributions in the area…
